Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU)

The Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU) is the nodal body established at ICAR-Central Institute for Arid Horticulture under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) for the protection, management, and commercialization of agricultural innovations and intellectual property (IP) generated by the institute.

Core Functions of ITMU


1. Intellectual Property (IP) Protection
• Identifies innovative research outputs with commercialization potential.
• Conducts prior-art and patentability searches.
• Facilitates filing and management of patents, copyrights, trademarks, and plant variety protection applications.
2. Technology Transfer and Commercialization
• Promotes the commercialization of technologies, products, processes, and crop varieties developed by ICAR-CIAH, Bikaner, and its regional station, Central Horticultural Experiment Station (CHES), Godhra.
• Facilitates licensing and dissemination of technologies to farmers, entrepreneurs, public institutions, and private industries.
3. Secretariat Support
• Functions as the operational and administrative secretariat of the Institute Technology Management Committee (ITMC).
• Coordinates meetings, maintains records, and assists in the implementation of ITMC and TCAC decisions.
4. IPR Awareness and Capacity Building
• Organizes Industry meet, technology exhibition, EDP training programmes, workshops, and awareness campaigns on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
• Disseminates ICAR guidelines and best practices related to innovation management and IP protection among scientists, technical staff, and stakeholders.
5. Agreements, MoUs, and Public–Private Partnerships
• Facilitates the drafting and execution of licensing agreements, Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs), and collaborative partnerships.
• Strengthens linkages between research institutions, industry, and entrepreneurs for the effective transfer and adoption of technologies aimed at enhancing horticultural development in the arid and semi-arid regions of India.
